During your lunchbreak (Eats)
Famish’d – the biggest and best salads in town
For those that work in the city, unless you are organised enough to bring your own lunch, you will be faced with that inevitable decision each day of what to buy. Do you go for a cooked meal at your favourite café (a meal that you know, despite trying to convince yourself otherwise, has been made with a fair dash of fat and salt) or do you opt for the salad – a healthier option but one that will inevitable see you hungry again at 2pm.
It’s a Catch 22 of Yossarian proportions and one that Famish’d has attempted to solve. Allot of thought has gone into this café with the aim of creating something a little outside your standard lunch café. You won’t find any focaccias, wraps or panini’s, with the sandwich menu limited to three or four types of toasted sandwiches (found on the menu under ‘hangover cures’).
What you will find and the reason this place remains packed each workday is the ‘design your own salad’ and ‘design your own spud’ options. You walk in, pick your base (lettuce, spinach leaves, potatoes) and then five ingredients to go with it. With around 30 fresh ingredients to choice from even the fussiest eaters should find something. The servings are extremely hearty, and often a challenge to finish. To top it off, all salads come with a choice of interesting home-made salad dressings and a piece of crusty bread.
And so you go away feeling full and healthy after indulging in a salad/spud that is perfectly fitted to your tastes
“Catch 22 of Yossarian proportions” makes no sense but was included to adequately demonstrate that I understand the origins of the phrase Catch 22
or a salad/spud that tastes rubbish after you panicked and selected the first five ingredients you laid eyes on.
